Mars spacecraft will complete short trips in the first half of 2019

According to CNBC, the American serial entrepreneur Elon Musk unexpectedly participated in the Q&A session at the SXSW Science and Technology Festival held in Austin, Texas on Sunday. The billionaire said that SpaceX, the US space exploration technology company, is expected to launch a spacecraft to Mars by 2019, but he jokingly said that it might postpone it.

Musk stated that he plans to launch spacecraft to Mars early next year, which may be the first milestone next year. This private company had announced in September 2017 that it planned to ship goods to the red planet by 2022. The ultimate goal of SpaceX is to establish a human colony on Mars.

Musk told participants: “We are building the first Mars or interplanetary spacecraft. I think we can complete a short-haul flight in the first half of next year.” Perhaps realising that expectations are too high, Musk is a bit hesitant to say: “Although sometimes My schedule is a bit late, you know..."

SpaceX's BFR rocket system is expected to have interplanetary travel capabilities and can be completely reused. The cost of this flight will be lower than the original Falcon 1, which costs between 5 million and 6 million US dollars.

Musk believes that if the BRF launches successfully, others will believe Mars travel is possible and follow him. Musk said: "The most important thing is to have extensive support, encouragement and goodwill. I think that by successfully launching BRF, we can prove to other companies and countries that they think things that are impossible can be done."

However, Musk warned that in the short term, Mars will need glass domes, power stations and various basic life factors. After the infrastructure is complete, "real entrepreneurial opportunities will break out because Mars will need everything from steel foundries to pizzas, etc."

In a series of extensive reviews, Musk told the audience about his other adventures, including Tesla and the Boring Company. The billionaire joked that he posted more information on Twitter than he actually spent on tunneling the company.

When asked about his sources of inspiration, Musk called Fred Astaire, a famous entertainer, and Kanye West, a hip hop artist, inspired him.
