On September 7 this year, Foton Motors do Brazil, a Brazilian subsidiary of Foton Motors, signed a memorandum with the government of Bahia, Brazil, to establish a factory in the city of Camaari, Bahia. Futian expects that the new plant will be put into production by the end of 2013 and that by 2017 it will have a capacity of 30,000 vehicles per year, employing about 1,000 people. According to the letter of intent, the factory will cover an area of 1 million square meters and is expected to produce two commercial vehicles, including a light truck and a micro-surface.
In the early stage, Foton will be assembled from Brazil to domestic transportation components, that is, all parts will be assembled with CKD. Afterwards, Foton will gradually increase the localization rate of parts and parts, and it will reach 65% or more before 2017. This is also Brazil's requirement for exemption from high industrial product tax IPI requirements for automotive products. Beginning in 2013, Fukuda will establish 130 dealerships in Brazil during the four years with an additional investment of US$2 billion.
Foton Motors officially began selling automobiles in Brazil through three Sao Paulo dealerships in January this year. The products include three light trucks with load capacities of 3.5 tons, 6.5 tons and 8.5 tons respectively.
