General Motors (USA) to stop production of Malibu for 3 weeks

General Motors (USA) to stop production of Malibu for 3 weeks According to "Automotive News", in order to digest the Chevrolet Malibu midsize car inventory in the US market, GM plans to stop production of the car in a US plant in the future for three weeks.

General Motors unionists said on December 17 that the company’s factory in Fairfax, Kansas, US will begin to stop production of Malibu this week in order to reduce the company’s high inventory levels in the region. General Motors will also cancel the production of Mai Ruibao at the plant from January 2nd to 4th, 2013; production will resume on January 7th, including a one-week Christmas-New Year holiday, with a total production stop of 20 days.

A General Motors spokesman later confirmed that the plant will stop production in December to ensure that the output and demand match, but did not confirm the details of the shutdown date. On December 1 this year, the 2013 Chevrolet Malibu’s inventory level in the United States reached 164 days.

The Fairfax plant also assembled the Buick LaCrosse, which was one of the first factories to produce the 2013 Malibu. The car is also produced at the General Motors Detroit Hamtramck plant, the Fuping plant in Korea, the Jinqiao plant in Shanghai, China, and the Asaka plant in Uzbekistan.
