ExxonMobil™ Refining and Supply Joliet Refinery Chooses Ferrara® Fire Apparatus for New Equipment Order
July 12th, 2021

HOLDEN, LA – Ferrara Fire Apparatus, Inc., a subsidiary of REV Group® and a top name in fire equipment manufacturing, is proud to announce that ExxonMobil Refining and Supply Joliet Refinery has selected them as the provider for their latest fire apparatus purchase.

The Joliet Refinery, situated 40 miles southwest of Chicago, has added a new Ferrara Inferno® Industrial Super Pumper® to its fleet. This state-of-the-art unit is designed to meet the growing demands of the facility’s expanding infrastructure and complex fire response needs.

Chief Michael Smith from the Joliet Refinery shared his thoughts on the decision: “We were looking for a high-flow, reliable apparatus that could handle our increasing operational challenges. Maneuverability was also key, and we had a tight deadline. Ferrara delivered exactly what we needed with the Inferno model.”

The design team at Ferrara worked closely with the refinery to customize the unit based on their specific requirements. The result is a heavy-duty two-door cab and chassis built with MAXX-Strength marine-grade aluminum, ensuring durability and performance in demanding environments.

One of the standout features of the unit is the Wireless Remote Controlled Task Force Tips Tsunami deck gun, which significantly reduces the number of personnel required to set up large flow monitors. As Chief Smith notes, “Less setup time means a safer scene, and that’s always our priority.”

The unit is also equipped with the FoamPro® AccuMax® Fusion multi-point direct injection foam system, capable of delivering 300 GPM of concentrated foam and featuring dual 3” foam intake connections. This provides greater flexibility compared to the refinery’s existing balanced pressure foam systems.

“This new Super Pumper will allow us to respond faster and with fewer people during emergencies,” said Chief Smith. “It reflects the commitment of our team to safety and preparedness at the Joliet Refinery.”

This partnership highlights Ferrara’s ability to deliver innovative, customized fire protection solutions that meet the evolving needs of industrial clients like ExxonMobil.

Thanks, Dennis

Galvalume Steel Coil

Galvalume steel is also called Aluminum-Zinc Alloy Coated Steel, Zincalume steel, aluminized zinc steel (aluzinc steel), SGLC. The galvalume metal is composed of 55% aluminium, 43.4% zinc and 1.6% silicon solidified at a high temperature of 600 ° C. Its whole structure consists of aluminium-iron-silicon-zinc, forming a dense quaternary crystal of an alloy. From the point of view of the degree of coating, the Galvanized Steel Coil is mainly the zinc plated on the coating, while the coating of the galvalume steel coil not only has zinc, but also has an extra part of aluminum.Galvalume steel sheet (coil) has better atmospheric corrosion resistance.

Galvalume Steel Sheet has excellent characteristics: strong corrosion resistance, 3 times that of pure Galvanized Steel Sheet; the surface has beautiful spangles, which can be used as building exterior panels.

The corrosion resistance of "Galvalume Steel Coil" is mainly because of aluminum, the protective function of aluminum. When the zinc is worn away, the aluminum forms a dense layer of aluminum oxide, preventing corrosion-resistant substances from further corroding the interior.
