Firefighters from Bensenville responded to an automatic fire alarm at 361 Marshall Road around 6:15 a.m. this morning. Within minutes, multiple calls came in reporting smoke and flames coming from the building. When police arrived on scene, they saw visible fire emerging from a third-floor window.
The fire quickly spread through the mansard roof and into the attic, prompting the alarm to be upgraded to a Box Alarm. As the flames broke through a fire wall, the incident was escalated to a Third Alarm. Fire crews from Bensenville Truck 107, Leyden Quint 133, and Chicago Squad 7A deployed large master streams, while several hand lines were also used after crews evacuated the building. One resident was initially unaccounted for but was later found deceased during overhaul operations.
Multiple fire departments were involved, including Bensenville, Wood Dale, Itasca, Leyden Township, Chicago, Elk Grove, Rosemont, Schiller Park, Franklin Park, Addison, Broadview, Hillside, Westchester, Mount Prospect, Roselle, Norwood Park, and York Center.
