ExxonMobil™ Refining and Supply Joliet Refinery Turns to Ferrara® Fire Apparatus for New EquipmentJuly 12th, 2021HOLDEN, LA – Ferrara Fire Apparatus, Inc., a leading manufacturer of fire equipment and part of REV Group®, has recently been selected by ExxonMobil Refining and Supply Joliet Refinery as their go-to supplier for the latest fire apparatus purchase.
The Joliet Refinery, located 40 miles southwest of Chicago, is adding a state-of-the-art Ferrara Inferno® Industrial Super Pumper® to its fleet. This move comes as part of an ongoing effort to enhance safety and operational efficiency at the facility.
"We needed a high-performance unit that could handle our growing infrastructure demands," said Chief Michael Smith of the Joliet Refinery. "Ferrara not only met our requirements but also exceeded our expectations in terms of speed and reliability."
The Inferno model was specifically chosen for its advanced features, including a two-door cab, a durable MAXX-Strength aluminum body, and a cutting-edge Wireless Remote Controlled Task Force Tips Tsunami deck gun. This innovative system allows for quicker deployment without requiring multiple firefighters to set up traditional monitors, significantly improving response times and reducing risk on site.
In addition to the deck gun, the unit is equipped with the FoamPro® AccuMax® Fusion foam system, which offers 300 GPM of concentrated foam flow and dual 3-inch intake connections. This upgrade brings greater flexibility to the refinery’s existing balanced pressure foam systems, making it more adaptable to different emergency scenarios.
"The Super Pumper will allow us to respond faster and with fewer personnel, which is crucial for maintaining safety and minimizing downtime," added Chief Smith. "It's a clear reflection of our commitment to emergency preparedness and the well-being of our team."
This new investment underscores the strong partnership between ExxonMobil and Ferrara, highlighting how modern technology and expert design can make a real difference in industrial safety operations.

The cold working methods of steel pipes mainly include cold drawing and cold rolling. The raw materials of cold-rolled steel pipes can be hot-rolled seamless steel pipes or welded pipes. The common characteristics of the cold working method of steel pipes are high dimensional accuracy and good surface roughness. It can produce very thin (up to 0.05~0.01mm) thin-walled tubes and very thin (up to 0.3~0.1 mm in diameter) capillaries.
Generally, the production process of seamless Steel Pipe can be divided into cold rolling and hot rolling. The appearance of cold-rolled seamless steel pipe is shorter than that of hot-rolled seamless steel pipe. The wall thickness of cold-rolled seamless steel pipe is generally smaller than that of hot-rolled seamless steel pipe. But the surface looks brighter than that of thick wall seamless steel pipe. The surface is not too rough, and the diameter is not too much burr.
In order to obtain seamless pipes with smaller size and better quality, cold rolling, cold drawing or a combination of the two methods must be used.
High precision cold drawn precision steel pipe is a new type of steel pipe, which is mainly characterized by high precision. There are usually two production processes of two high mill and three high mill. The precision of three high mill in producing cold rolled seamless steel pipe is higher, which can be controlled within a few wires, but the price is relatively higher.
The product specification range of cold rolled steel pipe is: outer diameter 4.0 ~ 450mm; The wall thickness is 0.04 ~ 60mm. Compared with the cold drawing method, the advantage of the periodic cold rolling method is that the shrinkage of the pass surface is large, there is no need for difficult head, and the yield is high.
