At approximately 10:30 PM on November 17, 2015, Chicago firefighters were dispatched to 126 E. 47th Street. Battalion 5 requested a Still & Box due to a fire in a one-story commercial building. Fire companies quickly evacuated the structure and transitioned to a defensive position. Shortly after, the fire was upgraded to a 2-11 alarm. The blaze spread to a two-story adjacent building to the east, which was completely gutted. The original structure collapsed during the incident.
Firefighters deployed three tower ladders with master streams, along with Engine 19’s deck gun, the reserve Snorkel, and multi-versals. Weather conditions were challenging, with strong winds and heavy rain that made operations particularly difficult at times.
Multiple units responded to the fire, and more detailed reports will follow. Here are some photos and a video from Larry Shapiro, capturing the intensity of the scene.
