Apartment fire in Evanston, 8-20-19

Rescuers pulled four pets—two cats and two dogs—from a fire at an apartment building in Evanston on Tuesday night. Firefighters quickly contained the blaze, which was limited to a first-floor unit of a four-story multi-family courtyard building on Sheridan Road. During a secondary search of the property, firefighters discovered the animals and managed to save them, using pet oxygen masks for three of them. All four animals survived, and no human injuries were reported.

The incident occurred around 8:30 PM, and emergency crews arrived within minutes. The fire was quickly brought under control, preventing it from spreading to other units. Residents were evacuated safely, and the cause of the fire is still under investigation. Local animal rescue groups praised the firefighters for their quick action, which likely saved the lives of the four pets. One of the cats was found trapped under debris, while the dogs were located in a nearby room. All animals were taken to a local veterinary clinic for checkups and are recovering well.
