Recently, the Nantong Shipbuilding Industry Talent Alliance was officially launched. This initiative was created through the collaboration of over 20 prominent institutions in China's ship engineering sector. The alliance aims to strengthen talent development and promote innovation within the shipbuilding industry.
Supported by key local authorities such as the Nantong Municipal Party Committee Organization Department, the Nantong Municipal Personnel Bureau, and the Gangzha District Government, the alliance has brought together 56 member organizations. These include leading universities, research institutes, industry associations, and major shipbuilding companies based in Nantong.
Shipbuilding and its supporting industries play a vital role in Nantong's economic strategy. In 2006, the city completed 2.02 million DWT (Deadweight Tons) of shipbuilding, which accounted for approximately one-seventh of the national total. Looking ahead, the city plans to expand its shipbuilding and repair capacity to 10 million DWT by 2010. By 2015, Nantong aims to establish 3 to 5 large-scale shipbuilding and manufacturing enterprises capable of producing over one million tons annually, along with 2 to 3 internationally competitive supporting industries. This strategic growth is expected to solidify Nantong's position as a major hub in China's maritime industry.
