The reporter learned from General Electric (GE) China that GE Oil & Gas has been selected as a supplier to provide compressor units for two milestone coal chemical projects in China. These two projects are the largest coal-to-olefin plants in the world.
It is reported that these two projects are Shenhua Ningxia Coal Group's production base in Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, and Datang International Power Generation Co., Ltd. is located in the production base in Xilin Gol League, Inner Mongolia.
After the two bases have been put into commercial operation in early 2009, they will have the ability to produce 500,000 tons of coal per year.
This will be the first commercial application of Lurgi's new MTP technology (methanol to propylene), which can directly produce propylene from coal. Propylene is one of the main products of the petrochemical industry.

GE will provide a hydrogen compressor, a syngas compressor and related spare parts and technical training for the Shenhua Ning coal project. GE will provide a set of large-scale centrifugal compressors and steam turbines for the Datang project. In addition, a set of deethanizer compressors and a set of polypropylene compressors will be provided. Related equipment will be produced by GE Oil & Gas in Italy and the United States, respectively, and will be shipped to China in the second quarter of 2008. It is reported that these two projects will further promote GE's development in China's oil and gas industry. In 2005, GE was selected by CNPC to supply 24 centrifugal compressors and 20 gas turbines required for 12 compression stations for the West-East Gas Pipeline Project. In the same year, GE was selected as the largest in China by CNOOC and ConocoPhillips. The offshore oilfield block Penglai 19-3 provides FPSO gas generator sets. In 2006, GE was selected by CNOOC to provide a large compressor unit for Huizhou refinery.
