The world's first tail gas ethanol demonstration project started

The production of fuel ethanol from tail gas of steel plants can reduce emissions and increase the comprehensive utilization of tail gas. On the 27th, the start-up ceremony was officially launched for the “Exhaust Gas-to-Ethanol Demonstration Project” implemented by Baosteel, Chinese Academy of Sciences and New Zealand Langze Technology.

It is understood that Baosteel Metals Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of Baosteel Group, and New Zealand Langze Technology Co., Ltd. jointly established China's first exhaust gas remanufacturing enterprise, Shanghai Baosteel Lanze New Energy Co., Ltd., and plans to first implement the 300-ton ethanol demonstration plant project. If the demonstration plant project succeeds, a commercial ethanol plant project with an annual output of 100,000 tons will be launched in due course to achieve industrialization.

An expert from Baosteel Group stated that the “Emission Model for Effluent Production from Steel Plants” will be jointly developed by Baosteel, Chinese Academy of Sciences and Lanze Company, which will open up a new way for the development of biomass energy.

Bai Chunli, president of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, stated that this cooperation is a new attempt by the Chinese Academy of Sciences for the internationalization of the "biotechnology innovation and bioindustry promotion project." The three parties will also establish a bio-energy research and development center to provide scientific and technological support for demonstration and commercial plants, and will cooperate in the development of new technologies in the field of bio-energy.

Baosteel revealed that the construction of the new Shanghai Baosteel Lanze New Energy Company is estimated to be about six months. "If all goes well, companies will be officially put into production in the third quarter of this year."
