The project has a total investment of 1 billion yuan, and each party holds 50% of the shares. The joint venture has a term of 30 years and was officially started construction on April 27, 2006. Sinopec has a number of wholly-owned and joint ventures in the Shanghai Chemical Industry Park, including 200,000 tons/year of phenol-acetone plants. Sinopec has been planning to build a bisphenol A production plant based on phenol and acetone to extend its industrial chain. After the bisphenol A plant is put into operation, it can digest almost 200,000 tons/year of phenol-acetone raw materials, realizing “net-squeezing and net-cleaning†and environmentally friendly production.
