On July 29, 2011, Changzhou CSR General Motors Diesel Engine Co. , Ltd., a joint venture between China South Locomotive Qishuyan and US General Electric (China) Co. , Ltd. , was put into operation.
The joint venture will produce the Evo16 diesel supercharger and power unit, which will be used for the HXN5 domestic maximum power AC drive diesel locomotive. The HXN5 high-power AC drive diesel locomotive with Evo16 series diesel engine can reduce the main emission by up to 50%, the fuel efficiency by 10%, and the life cycle cost by 15% compared to the early diesel locomotives.
