April 10, Beijing — According to the latest data released by the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers on April 10, the top ten automakers in China saw significant changes in their rankings during the first quarter of this year. SAIC Motor maintained its position at the top with sales of 301,000 units, while Chery and Geely made notable progress, rising from eighth and tenth places last year to seventh and ninth, respectively.
The top ten companies in terms of sales for the first quarter included SAIC, FAW, Dongfeng, Changan, BAIC, Hafei, Chery, GAC, Geely, and Jianghuai. Together, they sold a total of 1.46 million vehicles, accounting for 84.27% of the overall domestic auto market. SAIC led with 311,000 units, followed by FAW with 260,700, Dongfeng with 212,900, Changan with 208,200, and BAIC with 173,000. Sales growth varied across the companies, with some seeing double-digit increases, such as Hafei (up 99.87%) and Geely (up 83.79%).
In March alone, SAIC sold 117,900 units, FAW sold 113,600, Dongfeng 89,400, Beiqi 83,500, and Changan 78,100. Compared to February, March sales rose sharply, with FAW up 64.47%, Dongfeng up 60.37%, and Beiqi up 75.80%. The five major automakers together accounted for 66.87% of the total domestic vehicle sales in March, highlighting their strong performance in the month.
The shift in rankings reflects changing dynamics in the Chinese auto industry, driven by increasing competition, evolving consumer preferences, and strategic moves by manufacturers to capture market share. As the sector continues to grow, these top ten companies are expected to play a crucial role in shaping the future of automotive production and sales in China.
