Beijing, April 10 — According to the latest data released by the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers on April 10, the top ten automakers in China, which collectively account for over 80% of total vehicle sales, saw a significant shift in rankings during the first quarter of this year. SAIC Motor reclaimed the top spot with sales of 301,000 units, while Chery and Geely made notable progress, rising from eighth and tenth positions last year to seventh and ninth this year.
The top ten automakers in the first quarter included SAIC, FAW, Dongfeng, Changan, BAIC, Hafei, Chery, GAC, Geely, and Jianghuai. Together, they sold a combined total of 1,460,600 vehicles, representing 84.27% of the domestic market. Sales growth varied across companies, with some experiencing substantial increases compared to the same period last year. SAIC saw an 84.06% rise, FAW recorded a 35.76% increase, Dongfeng grew by 27.40%, Changan by 25.29%, BAIC by 16.48%, Hafei by 14.31%, Chery by 99.87%, GAC by 27.38%, Geely by 83.79%, and Jianghuai by 15.36%.
In March alone, SAIC, FAW, Dongfeng, Beiqi, and Changan sold 117,900, 113,600, 89,400, 83,500, and 78,100 units respectively. Compared to the previous month, their sales increased by 31.55%, 64.47%, 60.37%, 75.80%, and 43.91%. On an annual basis, their March sales rose by 50.96%, 29.55%, 17.66%, 15.13%, and 4.21% respectively. The five companies together accounted for 482,200 units in March, making up 66.87% of the total domestic auto sales.
This strong performance highlights the dynamic nature of the Chinese automotive market, where leading manufacturers are continuously adapting to shifting consumer demands and economic conditions.
