FAW Group Sales Increased by 46% in January

In 2008, the first automobile group kicked off the year with strong performance. According to sources within FAW, the company sold 167,000 units in January, marking a 46.9% year-on-year increase. Despite heavy snowfall across the country that significantly impacted car sales, FAW managed to sell 21,518 units of overstocked vehicles, bringing the total to 166,518 cars. Among these, passenger car sales reached 1,462,294 units, a 58.3% rise compared to the previous year. Meanwhile, medium and heavy truck sales hit 11,263 units, up by 11.6%. FAW's own brand, Pentium, has also seen remarkable success this year. It has become one of the top-selling mid-to-high-end models, achieving monthly sales of more than 5,000 units. Additionally, FAW Mazda made significant progress. In mid-January, Yu Hongjiang, Vice President of FAW Mazda Sales Company, announced that the price of the original imported Mazda3 Sport (Hatchback Edition) would start at 139,800 yuan. This pricing strategy attracted widespread attention in the industry, as it marked the first time that imported cars of the same class were priced lower than domestic models since China joined the WTO. According to Hong Jiang, the target for the imported hatchback Ma 3 is 1,800 units per month. For imported vehicles, this is an ambitious goal, as very few imported models in China have achieved such sales volume. According to FAW Group, Minister Li Huile shared insights with a newspaper reporter, explaining that FAW has gone through three major development phases: building a factory, launching products, and upgrading them. The company has expanded its product line to include medium, heavy, light, sedans, micro, and commercial vehicles. Its operations now cover six key areas: R&D, passenger cars, commercial vehicles, spare parts, and related industries. Recent statistics from FAW show that in 2007, the company sold 1.4 million units and generated 188 billion yuan in revenue. FAW ranked 385th on the "World's Largest 500 Companies" list and 71st on the "World Machinery 500." The company's brand value reached 4.2421 billion yuan.
