China Drying Network News LANXESS AG, Germany announced on September 11 that its world's largest high-performance Nd-PBR plant broke ground in Jurong Island, Singapore. The plant has an investment of about 200 million euros and a designed annual production capacity of 140,000 tons. It plans to start production in the first half of 2015.

Tantalum series of high-performance butadiene rubbers are used to make treads and sidewalls of "green tires" to help reduce rolling resistance and improve tire fuel efficiency. Tantalum butadiene rubber has excellent wear resistance, which plays an important role in improving the safety of the tire and the most important durability. LANXESS stated that “green tires” are the fastest-growing market in the tire industry, with a global growth rate of 10% per year. Asia's growth rate is faster, reaching 13% per year.

Since November 2012, the European Union will begin to enforce the tire labeling method. According to the tire's fuel efficiency, wetland grip and rolling noise, the tires are divided into grades from A to G. According to a study by the Technical University of Munich, by 2017, the share of Tier A and Tier B tires in the EU market is expected to reach 20% to 30%. By 2022, this figure will soar to 70% to 80%. In the next few years, other countries, including Brazil, the United States, and China, plan to implement similar regulations.

Singapore Petrochemical Corporation will be responsible for the supply of most of the butadiene - the main raw material for the production of phthalocyanine butadiene rubber, and TP Utilities Pte Ltd, a subsidiary of Tuas Power Company of Singapore, will be responsible for supplying steam to this new plant. Foster Wheeler Asia Pacific Pte. Ltd. is responsible for the engineering and construction of the plant.

Ruthenium-based butadiene rubber is part of LANXESS's high-performance butadiene-butadiene rubber (PBR) business unit and is currently in Dormagen, Cabo, Brazil, Port Jérôme, France, and Texas, USA. It is produced in Orange and other places.

LANXESS is a butadiene rubber plant located in Jurong Island, Singapore, adjacent to the company's butyl rubber plant, which is the largest single investment project by LANXESS so far with a total investment of 400 million euros. The plant is scheduled to start production in the first quarter of 2013.
