Domestic heavy-duty trucks tend to become high-end Dongfeng commercial vehicles Renault dCi11 become a benchmark

Compared with 2010, there were two significant changes in the domestic heavy-duty diesel engine market in 2011: First, domestic engines were no longer berserk, and second, imported engines or technology engines were sought after.

The Cosault 9 (CURSOR9) engine produced by SAIC-FIAT Hongyan has sold more than 4,000 units in the first four months of 2011. This figure has surpassed the total sales for the whole year of 2010. It is expected that the sales volume for 2011 will exceed 10,000 units.

The Dongfeng commercial vehicle Renault dCi11 engine sold 2012 in May 2011. As of the end of May 2011, 13206 units were sold, an increase of 100% year-on-year.

Compared to the tepid heavy truck market in 2011, high-end engines have seen a significant trend of hot sales. With the upgrading of national emission regulations and the improvement of logistics efficiency, the high-end trend of heavy-duty truck engines in China will become increasingly apparent. Here we analyze the demand and supply of high-end engines.

demand

Judging from the sales of tonnage of heavy trucks from January to May 2011, heavy trucks generally show a trend of developing towards large tonnages. In 2011, the heavy-duty truck market showed a significant rapid growth in large tonnage, with the small tonnage shrinking and the overall tonnage rising. In the first five months of 2011, cumulative sales of heavy trucks with a total mass of 32 tons or more increased by 209.16%, heavy trucks with a total mass of more than 26 tons and less than 32 tons increased by 14.62%, and total quality exceeded 19 tons and 26 tons increased by 12.89%. Heavy trucks with masses greater than 14 tons and less than 19 tons are down 8.37% year-on-year. In semi-trailer tractors, the total mass of more than 40 tons increased by 90.11% compared with 2010. In addition, the fourth national emission regulations to be implemented in 2012 will also promote engine upgrades.

The full implementation of the toll-by-weight system and the stricter management of the overload after July 1, 2011, as well as the high price of oil, all make the weight reduction of heavy trucks more and more important. With light weight demand, the weight of the engine is also crucial. As a result, lighter engines will become more popular ahead of the same emissions and the same power.

In recent years, the low-floor wind in the cab, which has become increasingly popular, also imposes requirements on the dimensions of the engine. If the cab is to be made into a low floor or a flat floor, the engine must have a compact design. At the 2011 Shanghai Auto Show, Dongfeng Liuzhou Automobile released the new generation of heavy-duty truck M7. The cab is a low floor. Its assembly is a Dongfeng Cummins ISZ 13L large-displacement engine with a power of 450-520 hp. At the 2011 Shanghai Auto Show, another low-floor cab model, the SAIC Iveco Hongyan Jieshi, is equipped with the Corso 9 engine. Both engines are the latest generation of foreign brands in the world.

Corso 9 engine price is 6-7 million, which is several times the price of domestic engines. Because this engine has a displacement of only 8.7 liters, it is not in line with the psychology of Chinese consumers, coupled with the high price, it has been left out after the listing. However, due to its fuel-saving, quiet and a series of features, it is increasingly recognized by consumers. In the first four months of 2011, sales exceeded the full year of 2010, indicating that the market has increased demand for high-end engines.

supply

In addition to the Dongfeng Commercial Vehicles dCi11, Corso 9 and Cummins ISZ and ISM series engines mentioned earlier, the international heavyweight engines that will be put into production in China in the future include the MAN D26 and MAN D20 produced jointly by Sinotruk and MAN. The Mercedes-Benz OM457, a joint venture between Foton and Germany's Daimler, and the Maasfu series of engines produced by Jianghuai Automobile and Navistar, are the engines that the joint venture plans to introduce.

Why is the Dongfeng Renault engine a reference?

Dongfeng Renault Engine is an engine fitted for Renault Commercial Vehicles' F3 series products and was first put on the market in 1998. In 2001, VOLVO Group acquired Renault's truck business. In order to integrate heavy-duty diesel engine platforms, Renault DCI11 was transferred to Dongfeng Commercial Vehicles. In 2004, Dongfeng Commercial Vehicle Co., Ltd. invested a total of 450 million yuan to build the Dongfeng DCI11 engine project. On May 18, 2006, it produced a full-scale production.

Volvo and Renault's heavy-duty diesel engines are now on the same platform. The D11 and D13 engines that correspond to Volvo are the Renault DXI11 and DXI13 engines.

China National Heavy Duty Truck is about to produce Man D20, D26 engine, Corso 9 produced by SAIC Fiat Red Rock, as well as the future production of Corso 11 and Corso 13 engines, Dongfeng Cummins is producing ISZ and ISM series engines, Beiqi Foton and The Mercedes-Benz OM457 engine produced jointly by Daimler and the Mays engine prepared by the joint venture between JAC and Navistar are also the latest generation of engines in the overseas market.

The Man D26 engine has a displacement of 12.412 liters, a maximum torque of up to 2,500 Newtons, a maximum power of 441 kilowatts, a maximum lift of 36 kilowatts per litre, and a weight of 1,015 kilograms. Similarly, a 12.53 litre engine of a certain domestic brand has a maximum torque of 2,300, a maximum power of 371 kilowatts, a maximum power of 30 kilowatts/liter, and a weight of 1,250 kilograms. If we talk about emissions, many of Europe’s latest engines can reach Euro VI, while domestic ones that can reach Euro V are few.

In addition to the gap in the basic performance indicators of the engine, there is a large gap between the foreign engine and the imported engine in terms of engine volume and noise.

It is precisely because of a deep understanding of the gap between Chinese and foreign engines that China National Heavy Duty Truck will take the hot market and share it with German Man at the time of its development. Beiqi Foton will have a joint venture with Daimler. It can be said that the joint venture of heavy truck companies can now be seen as a joint venture with the engine as its core. This is not the case for the SAIC, Hongyan and Iveco joint ventures, CNHTC, Beiqi Foton and Jianghuai Automobile.

On the stage of China’s heavy trucks, it will no longer be the time when domestically produced engines stand out. Now, the situation of hundreds of domestic and foreign engines will appear. Do not know who will be the biggest winner in the cruel market competition? Who will be eliminated?

Is the engine abroad really good?

There is a gap between domestic brands and foreign brands. We can use Dongfeng DCI11 as a reference to compare.

In 2007, at the first China International Truck Fuel Contest, the fuel consumption curves of the Dongfeng dCi11 engine made the judges applaud. In that competition, there were 20 heavy-duty trucks such as FAW Jiefang, Dongfeng Commercial Vehicle, China National Heavy Duty Truck, Dongfeng Liuzhou Gas, Jianghuai, and Nanxi Lingye. The engines fitted were Xichai, Weichai, Dongfeng dCi11, Yuchai et al. Almost all the fuel consumption curves of the participating vehicles are basically all pointed spokes. Just like the cooking pot, the fuel consumption curve of the three participating models of the Dongfeng Commercial Vehicle equipped with the Dongfeng Renault engine is a flat curve, just like a frying pan.

At the same time, the entire bottom of the fuel consumption curve of the DCI11 engine is located below the lowermost part of other engines. This means that the Dongfeng DCI11 can be in a fuel-efficient area within a very long speed range. The domestic engine basically has only a small speed range to achieve the minimum fuel consumption, and this fuel consumption is also higher than the minimum fuel consumption range of the Dongfeng DCI11, especially if the vehicle once leave the speed point, the fuel consumption will immediately rise sharply.

The jury experts lamented that the curve of the DCI11 engine is so beautiful, but it is even more impressive that there is indeed a clear gap between domestic and foreign engines.
