Just got back from visiting the Chicago Ridge Fire Department in MABAS Division 21. It’s great to see this department getting more recognition as they’ve recently been added to the local firefighting network. They have two stations, each playing a crucial role in their emergency response system—one station is manned by full-time career firefighters, while the other relies on dedicated paid-on-call volunteers who step up when needed.
The department operates a diverse fleet that reflects their commitment to efficiency and preparedness. You’ll find a mix of equipment, including an impressive E-ONE tower ladder, several engines from top manufacturers like Pierce, Luverne, and another E-ONE model, along with ambulances custom-built by Road Rescue and Aurora Truck Body. Each piece of apparatus is chosen with care to ensure they can handle any situation that comes their way.
I had the chance to snap some photos during my visit. The first image shows one of their Pierce engines, which looks sharp and ready for action. Another shot highlights their Luverne engine, captured in a moment that really showcases its sleek design. There’s also a fantastic photo of Engine 6533 from the Chicago Ridge Fire Department hard at work during a significant 5th Alarm fire in Cicero back in 2007. That particular engine was seen pumping tirelessly for hours at the Fox Lumberyard fire in Alsip—a testament to their endurance and skill under pressure.
It’s always inspiring to see how these departments balance tradition with modern advancements. The Chicago Ridge Fire Department seems to strike that perfect balance, ensuring they’re well-equipped to serve their community effectively. I’m looking forward to seeing more updates from them in the future!
