Recently, the world's largest tractor, the AGCO Challenger MT875B, made headlines by cultivating an area equivalent to two football fields every two minutes. Equipped with a 14-meter-wide Gregoire Besson XXL turntable, it managed to cover 644 hectares in just 24 hours — an impressive feat that equals about 780 football fields. This achievement set a new world record for the most land cultivated in a single day.
The record was officially broken by Benoit Verdin, a representative of Gregoire Besson, during a 24-hour non-stop driving test in Timișoara, Romania. The tractor operated at a depth of 10 cm, working through medium to heavy clay loam, which is one of the most challenging soil types for farming equipment.
Over the course of the day, the MT875B tilled a massive 6.4 by 1 kilometer area — a space so large it could be compared to a 155 mm wide straight strip stretching across the equator. This level of efficiency and performance showcases the advanced engineering behind modern agricultural machinery.
In terms of speed, the standard Challenger MT875B can work at an average rate of 26.8 hectares per hour — that’s roughly 30 football fields every hour. Its fuel efficiency is also remarkable, consuming just 4.42 liters of fuel per hectare, which is roughly the same as the volume of four soda bottles. This combination of power, precision, and efficiency highlights how modern tractors are revolutionizing large-scale farming around the globe.
