On January 23, the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) released an official notice announcing the cancellation of 436 industry standards that have been in effect for over five years. These standards span across key sectors such as machinery, light industry, textiles, and petrochemicals, with 253 of them belonging to the mechanical industry. The move aims to streamline regulations and align them more closely with current industrial needs.
Among the revoked mechanical industry standards are several critical ones related to machine tools, molds, bearings, and welding. For example, "Technical Conditions for Safety Protection of Foundry Machinery" (JB 5545-1991) and "Determination of Hot Cracking Tendency of Alloys for Casting Properties" (JB/T 4022.2-1999) are no longer considered relevant. Other affected standards include the "Coupling Crack Displacement COD Test Method" (JB/T 4291-1999), "Accelerometer Vibration Tester for Rolling Bearings" (JB/T 8561-1997), "Machine Cooling System Components: High Head Cooling Pump" (JB/T 8650.1-1997), and "General Forging Module Blank Size and Weight Method" (JB/T 5900-1991).
The decision to repeal these standards was driven by multiple factors. First, many of the methods outlined in the standards are no longer applicable in modern production environments, as enterprises have moved away from using them. Second, some standards were only adopted by a few companies, which has led to their loss of broader industry relevance. Third, the technological content of certain standards has become outdated, making them less practical for today’s manufacturing processes. Finally, with market forces increasingly shaping product functions and structures, many of these standards have lost their ability to guide industry development effectively.
This revision reflects a broader effort by the NDRC to ensure that technical regulations remain up-to-date and aligned with real-world industrial practices, promoting efficiency and innovation across various sectors.
