I just got some exciting news about the new mobile command post for Chicago's Engine 2-7-2! It’s set to hit the streets starting next Monday, March 27, 2017. The vehicle’s chassis is a 2013 Ford F53, which forms the backbone of this impressive unit. The actual body of the van was crafted by Utilimaster back in 2015, and the interior build-out was completed by LDV in 2016. Interestingly enough, Utilimaster is now under Spartan ownership.
I managed to snap a few photos of this beauty while it was being prepped for its debut. You can see the exterior shot above, with the van proudly carrying Shop ID#G-610. Inside, you’ll find a fully equipped workspace designed for efficiency and functionality. I’ve included several interior shots that showcase the layout and design—there’s so much attention to detail here, from the seating arrangement to the communication equipment mounted throughout. The final image shows the Ford F53 chassis tag, giving us insight into the vehicle’s specifications, followed by a picture of the Utilimaster body tag, verifying its origins.
