Fire service history – Ahrens Fox

Hey everyone, I just came across something really interesting that I wanted to share with all of you. This is an old Ahrens Fox fire truck brochure, and it’s a true gem for anyone who loves vintage firefighting equipment. Judging by the style and details, I’d say it dates back to the late 1930s. One of the highlights of this brochure is a stunning photograph showing a scene from a massive grain elevator fire along the Calumet River in Chicago. The incident took place in May 1939 at the Rosenbaum Elevators, and you can see several Ahrens Fox fire trucks hard at work. It’s an incredible glimpse into how firefighting operations were conducted back then. What’s even more fascinating is that one of the fire trucks featured in the brochure is actually from the FDNY, although it doesn’t have any visible FDNY markings. It’s a testament to how widely respected these vehicles were across different departments. I managed to scan the three-page spread, merge them into one image, and enhance the clarity. I think it turned out pretty amazing! If you’re a fan of firefighting history or just love classic machinery, this is definitely worth checking out. I’ve included some images below so you can get a better look. Enjoy! [Insert Images Here] Best regards, Steve
