This afternoon (8/12/22) around 2:30 PM, police and firefighters in Buffalo Grove responded to a report of an accident involving a person trapped near the intersection of Auburn Lane and Arlington Heights Road, just north of Lake Cook Road. The caller, a male, reported being pinned under his own truck. Using a cell phone ping, authorities were able to locate the exact position of the incident.
Upon arrival, first responders discovered a tractor-trailer positioned in the northbound curb lane of Arlington Heights Road close to the Auburn Lane address. It appeared the truck's driver had stopped there to check or fix a mechanical problem beneath the vehicle. Unfortunately, while lying underneath, the truck might have shifted slightly due to its positioning on a gentle slope. One of the rear wheels ended up trapping the driver’s foot, leaving him unable to move.
The firefighters on the scene expressed concerns about the structural integrity of the truck during the rescue effort. They called in additional support from Long Grove Squad 55 and Lincolnshire-Riverwoods Squad 51 to bring more cribbing materials. At the same time, they urgently requested a heavy-duty wrecker from Hillside Towing to help lift the truck off the trapped individual. Once the wrecker arrived, firefighters managed to safely extricate the trapped driver using a combination of airbags and the newly brought cribbing equipment. Both squads were then released from the scene, and the tow truck eventually hauled away the tractor and trailer.
