Dennis McGuire, Jr. recently shared this update:
The year is 1987. This particular vehicle features a SPARTAN chassis manufactured by E-ONE, complete with an impressive 55-foot SNORKEL aerial device. It has logged a total of 748 hours of operation. The Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) is 158BT0L07HC185046. Unfortunately, it’s currently inoperable. This fire truck was sold at auction for $4,550. The sale took place through the City of Chicago’s online auctions platform.
Attached are images from the Chicago Auction site, showcasing different angles of the decommissioned Snorkel. The first image provides a general view of the vehicle, highlighting its iconic design as a reserve snorkel truck. The second image focuses on the driver's side, revealing details about the exterior condition after being taken out of service. The third image zeroes in on the E-ONE body and the extendable 55-foot Snorkel boom, giving a closer look at the equipment that made this unit so valuable during its active years.
As someone who has been following these auctions closely, I find it fascinating how these vehicles transition from serving their communities to becoming potential projects or collectors' items. If anyone is interested in restoring this piece of firefighting history, it could be a rewarding challenge given its specifications and current state. Let me know if you'd like more details about similar listings or perhaps some tips on where to start with a restoration project like this one!
