Niles firefighters were called to a partial roof collapse at an industrial building on Austin Avenue, 6319, yesterday. A roughly 30-foot section of the Georgia Nut Company warehouse roof collapsed about 24 inches, settling on pipes near the ceiling that housed the sprinkler system and a gas line. Fortunately, no one was injured. Firefighters quickly shut off the gas supply and drained the sprinkler system to prevent any further hazards before a private contractor arrived to stabilize the damaged structure.
Tim Olk was on-site and captured these photos for the report.

The incident has raised questions about the structural integrity of older industrial buildings in the area. Local officials are now reviewing safety protocols for similar structures. Residents nearby reported hearing a loud thud when the roof gave way, but no major disruptions were reported beyond the immediate site. The fire department continues to monitor the situation as repairs get underway.
