Niles firefighters were called to a partial roof collapse at an industrial building on Austin Avenue, 6319, yesterday. A roughly 30-foot section of the roof at the Georgia Nut Company facility collapsed by about 24 inches, settling onto pipes near the ceiling that house the sprinkler system and a gas line. Fortunately, no one was injured during the incident. Firefighters quickly shut off the gas supply and drained the sprinkler lines before a private contractor arrived to provide structural support for the damaged roof.
Tim Olk was on site and captured these photos, offering a firsthand look at the scene. The images show the extent of the damage and the efforts made by emergency responders to secure the area.
