China's auto and component export target is determined

The Ministry of Commerce has decided to step up the promotion of China's auto and auto parts exports, and has determined that it will strive to achieve a long-term goal of exporting automobiles and auto parts worth 700 to 100 billion U.S. dollars in 2010. This was the information disclosed by Vice Minister Wei Jianguo of the Ministry of Commerce at the "Seminar on the Expansion of Automobile and Parts Exports" jointly held by the Ministry of Commerce and the National Development and Reform Commission on April 3-4. If this goal can be successfully achieved, 40% of China's automobile and parts production will be exported. It is reported that the short-term goal of the Ministry of Commerce is to achieve 150 to 20 billion U.S. dollars in exports of automobiles and parts in 2005. According to customs statistics, in 2003, China’s total export value of automobiles and parts and components was US$4.71 billion, of which, the total volume of auto vehicles (including spare parts) was 400 million U.S. dollars, and exports of component parts were 4.31 billion U.S. dollars. Wei Jianguo pointed out that under the background of economic globalization, the rapid growth of auto and auto parts exports reflects the rapid development trend of China's auto industry. Increasing the export intensity of automobiles and parts can better attract foreign investment, accelerate the restructuring and technological upgrading of China's auto industry, and further consolidate and improve China's position in the global auto parts manufacturing industry. Wei Jianguo said that according to the current development trend, after several years of hard work, China is likely to become the world's auto parts manufacturing supply base. Therefore, the government and enterprises should seize the favorable opportunity for the foreign multinationals of auto parts and components to transfer to China, and take measures to fully extend the automobile and parts industry chain to form a world-scale automobile and parts industry cluster and build a strong Automobile and parts industry system and manufacturing base. The government will adopt a series of measures to promote the export of automobiles and parts. On the one hand, we encourage the merger and reorganization of auto parts companies to form a batch of key enterprises with international competitiveness. The government hopes to cultivate 5 to 10 automobiles and parts companies with economies of scale in recent years and use them as the main export base. On the other hand, the government will also vigorously promote and support domestic enterprises to successfully enter overseas markets through various international quality certification systems; at the same time, it will continue to improve the export service system for automobiles and parts and standardize export order.
