Bayer Class and Shanghai Integrated Base: History of Human Resources Development of Bayer Material Science and Technology Group

Located in the Shanghai Chemical Industry Park, the Bayer Integrated Base, with a total investment of US$3.1 billion, will implement world-class large-scale projects for coating, polycarbonate, and polyurethane raw materials in phases. After more than four years of construction, it has been partially put into production and some of it has continued to be large-scale infrastructure. The simultaneous development with the integrated base is the development of human resources at the base. Dr. Bodi Ke, president of Bayer MaterialScience Shanghai Integration Base, said a few days ago: “The Bayer Shanghai base is in a good state of development. The positive effects of its human resources strategy are increasingly evident. Our greatest success is Bayer's global expertise and China's place. With the integration of expertise and multi-level talents, as of November last year, the Shanghai Base has ushered in its 500th employee, and it is estimated that by the time the factory is built and operational in 2009, there will be more than 1,000 employees.”
Cooperatively weaving blue collar cradle - "Bayer Class"
World-class base requires first-rate talents. In the development of Chinese bases, it is necessary to cultivate localized talents. As early as June 2002, Bayer (China) Co., Ltd. and Shanghai Petrochemical Industrial School signed an agreement on cultivating talents. Bayer and the school are linked to each other. First, Bayer Fok Shanghai Petrochemical School is one of the top five vocational schools in the chemical industry in China, with strong professional knowledge. Second, because the school is close to the base, most of the local students are recruited to facilitate internships. Work in the future.
To reflect first-class education standards, Bayer spent one million euros to build a laboratory, pilot plant and pipeline installation workshop at the school. At the same time, we selected outstanding students from the second year of the school and opened a two-year professional vocational training program called “Bayer Class”. All teaching uses Bayer textbooks, formal training in chemical engineering, and creates opportunities for students to apply the knowledge in the practical environment of the laboratory and workshop. To this end, students are required to attend a 12-week internship at the Integrated Base to enhance their hands-on capabilities.
Bayer Class is the cradle of Bayer's training of skilled workers. As of today, "Bayer Class" has sent three batches of graduates, and nearly 100 students have entered the Bayer Shanghai integration base. Other graduates joined Bayer after the start of the new factory this year. Dr. Bodick said: “The supervisors are highly appraised of this group of students and believe that the graduates of 'Bayerban' have a solid theoretical basis, are skilled, hard-working, and have a very active attitude.”
The quality of students cultivated through the combination of Bayer's special knowledge and Shanghai Petrochemical School's expertise has attracted the attention of domestic counterparts. In the "Mingyuan Cup" competition held for all petrochemical institutions in China in November 2005, three students from the "Bayer Class" of the Shanghai Petrochemical Industry School won the first prize: the first prize of the group project and the first-rate project of the individual. Awards and other awards include nearly 70% of all projects. At the ceremony held at the Shanghai Petrochemical Industry School, Dr. Bodick presented certificates and prizes to the three contestants Yu Jie, Shen Jing, and Shen Wei. The three students also received the “Advanced Chemical Workers” certificate from the Shanghai Municipal Labor Bureau.
Co-ordinate high-level talents and technology elites
Bayer's development in China requires high-level talents. Dr. Dai Mu, president of Bayer Greater China Group, said: “Greater China is of strategic importance to Bayer. In order to maximize our growth in the region, we are committed to attracting and developing high-level local talent. According to different positions Yes, Bayer recruits through various channels, such as recruiting mature talents with work experience through channels such as advertising, headhunting companies, and recruitment websites, and recruiting campuses through famous universities and international business schools.” Bayer Group promises to enter advanced talents Management opportunities. The high-level talents that are absorbed are sent to overseas to study and return to work in China. This has become a key way for the Bayer Group to cultivate talents. As part of Bayer's many high-level talent programs in Greater China, there are currently 22 Chinese postdoctoral and Ph.D. students studying in Germany, with majors in chemistry, engineering, and related fields. During their studies, they visited the Bayer Group headquarters in Leverkusen, Germany, as well as production and environmental protection facilities in Leverkusen in November last year. They also met with Bayer's senior executives.
Cooperation with the Chinese Academy of Sciences is also an important channel for cultivating high-level talent. The cooperation between Bayer and the Chinese Academy of Sciences was successfully launched in 2001. Last year, both sides decided to extend cooperation to 2010. The project's framework includes project cooperation studies with major Chinese chemical companies, with a goal of all areas of Bayer's comprehensive business scope. The Chinese Academy of Sciences-Bayer Research Fund Award is one of the important projects of the cooperation between the two parties. It aims to encourage high-level young postdoctoral talents to engage in scientific research and establish their own research team in China.
"Enlivening life with innovative technologies" is the mission that Bayer Group is fully committed to in China. Dr. Dai Mu believes that cooperation with the Chinese Academy of Sciences has become an integral part of China’s long-term strategic development. On December 6th last year, at the annual award ceremony held by the Institute of Chemistry of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Professor Liu Weimin of the Lanzhou Institute of Chemical Physics, Dr. Li Yuesheng of the Changchun Institute of Applied Chemistry, and Dr. Yang Zhenzhong of the Institute of Chemistry of the Chinese Academy of Sciences accepted Dr. The awards honor the winners for their outstanding contributions to polymer science and materials research.
Research has an environment Talent development has space
Bayer's cutting-edge employment concept and first-rate research environment have become fertile ground for talent growth.
The company has built a dynamic stage for its employees: providing excellent training, planning career development for everyone, and creating a higher level and cross-functional development space. A good working environment and corporate culture provide employees with a platform for participating in management activities, ensuring that employees can enjoy fair and competitive compensation. These initiatives are of great appeal to young Chinese employees who are closely connected with their own development and corporate development and who are modern in their awareness.
Bayer Greater China District Director of Human Resources Guiping Mei told reporters that the courage to take responsibility, proactive and high-quality staff is Bayer's most important asset. In the employment standards, Bayer requires employees to have the commitment to lifelong learning; the desire to take the initiative to develop; and the courage and ability to work independently and take responsibility for the courage to take risks. Bayer encourages employees to use their knowledge and innovation capabilities to participate in the work based on shared values.
The Bayer Group has a comprehensive plan for the career development of employees. If employees have relevant work experience, the Bayer Group will plan its career by providing different functions and an extended range of occupations. Bayer provides employees with a wide range of professional development opportunities, such as on-the-job training, overseas training, project management, leadership and management skills training. It also cultivates employees through cross-departmental cross-business group job opportunities. For Bayer’s internal senior management training program, it is done through cooperation with the business school. At the Bayer Integration Base, several Chinese employees have taken up senior management positions and become deputy general managers of the legal entity at the production base.
Because of Bayer's implementation of an advanced talent strategy, Bayer Shanghai Integrated Base has tripled its work force in the past two years, successfully and quickly established a management team and a large-scale and skilled workforce. To promote the integration of bases for the construction of blooming bases and the cultivation of talented people.
