3-Alarm fire in Franklin Park, 8-10-20

From the Schiller Park Firefighters Local 5230 Facebook page: On August 10, 2020, a three-alarm fire broke out in an industrial building in Franklin Park. Members of Local 5230 responded to assist Franklin Park firefighters. Truck 5 from Schiller Park entered the building with a 2½-inch handline, while also deploying their ladder truck and heading to the roof alongside Franklin Park crews. While on the roof, both companies made several trench cuts, allowing firefighters to attack the fire with handlines and extinguish all hot spots. The Schiller Park Fire Department was on scene for about three hours, during which a heavy wind and rain storm swept through the area. Despite the challenging weather, our team remained focused and professional. All remaining members on duty stayed back and handled multiple storm-related calls—downed trees, power lines, and various EMS emergencies. A big thank you to Tim Olk for capturing these moments with his photos! One thing we take very seriously is post-fire accountability. When we return to the station, every tool is cleaned, inspected, and ready for the next call. Each firefighter is required to wash their gear as part of our ongoing efforts to protect our health and prevent long-term risks like cancer. It's a small but crucial step in keeping our crew safe and prepared for whatever comes next.
