The Lake Zurich Fire Department responded to a call at 5:30 AM regarding flames coming from a large house in Deer Park. Upon arrival, the first units found fire visible from the flat roof of a home that had been vacant for several years. The area lacks hydrants, so the first engine tried to use tank water via the deck gun to combat the fire. Due to the difficulty in accessing water, a tanker shuttle was quickly initiated.
A second alarm was called to bring in additional tankers to support the operation. A large diameter hose was laid from Cuba Road to the house, covering nearly an entire block. The fire caused significant damage to the roof and attic, but no injuries were reported.
Photos from the scene show the extent of the fire and the efforts made by firefighters to contain it. These images were captured by Larry Shapiro and local photographer Vince Clemens.
