This is from Larry Shapiro:
The Lake Zurich Fire Department responded to a call at 5:30 AM reporting flames coming from a large house in Deer Park. Upon arrival, the first units found fire visible from the flat roof of a home that had been vacant for several years. The area lacked fire hydrants, so the initial engine crew attempted to use tank water via the deck gun to control the fire. However, due to the size and difficulty of the situation, a second alarm was called for additional tankers to support the effort.
A large diameter hose was laid from Cuba Road to the residence, covering nearly an entire block to provide a steady water supply. The fire caused significant damage to the roof and attic of the structure. Despite the challenges, firefighters worked diligently to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading to nearby properties.
