Working fire in Chicago, 1-6-17

Here's a report from Eric Haak:

Early Friday morning, just before 7:00 AM, a working fire broke out at a two-story frame home located on the 13400 block of South Carondolet Avenue in Chicago. The fire was visibly coming from the rear windows on the first floor and a door on the "D" side of the house. This particular side had very limited access, as it was only a few feet away from an adjacent commercial building. The hydrant directly in front of the home wasn't functioning—whether it was frozen or not remained unclear. As a result, Engine 97 had to travel further down the block to 134th Street to connect to a working hydrant. Meanwhile, Engine 104 was held in reserve. Fortunately, all the residents, including the family dog, were able to escape the home safely without any injuries.

Eric Haak captured several striking images of the scene, showing the smoke rising from the house at dawn, firefighters connecting to a hydrant, and the emergency vehicles on the street. These photos provide a powerful visual account of the quick response and challenging conditions faced by the Chicago Fire Department during this incident.
