Demers Ambulances and Lion Electric Launch All-Electric Ambulance

From Jems.com:

Demers Ambulances, a top North American manufacturer of ambulance vehicles, has partnered with Lion Electric Company (NYSE: LEV) (TSX: LEV), a leader in all-electric medium and heavy-duty urban vehicles, to unveil the Demers eFX Ambulance — the first purpose-built, fully electric ambulance on the market.

Set to launch in the second half of 2022, this groundbreaking model was developed with support from the government of Quebec and the National Research Council of Canada's Industrial Research Assistance Program (NRC IRAP). The project has been the result of nearly five years of collaboration between Demers and Lion, incorporating direct feedback from paramedics and emergency medical service providers. This is the first ambulance designed specifically with input from those who use it daily.

The Lion5 chassis will be built in Saint-Jérôme by Lion, while the medical compartment and final assembly will take place at Demers’ facility in Beloeil. The all-electric ambulance will be available across North America and eventually globally, as Demers’ ambulances are already in use in 43 countries. As part of their exclusive partnership, Demers plans to deploy at least 1,500 fully electric ambulances over the next five years.

Beyond being a game-changer for the energy transition in ambulance services, the Demers eFX Ambulance is also set to improve the ergonomics, safety, and efficiency for paramedics, enhancing both their comfort and that of patients. It marks a major shift in how emergency transport is approached.

This is the first ambulance ever designed with a custom chassis built specifically for emergency medical services. The teams at Demers and Lion completely reimagined the layout and functionality of the ambulance, focusing on improving the working environment for paramedics and optimizing space for patient care.

One of the key challenges paramedics face is the ability to move freely during transit while remaining safely seated. Through extensive consultation with professionals in the field, the Demers R&D team has developed several innovative features that will be revealed ahead of certification and production start.
