CFD Still & Box – 3/1/2014

This report comes from Dennis McGuire, Jr.

Engine Company 115 responded to a basement fire at a two-story brick apartment building located at 12021 S. Eggleston. Battalion 22 initiated a Still & Box alarm due to the fire rapidly spreading to the second floor. It appeared that hydrants in the area might have been frozen, causing a delay in securing a water source. Truck Company 27 positioned themselves in the 1/4 sector with their main line extended to the roof. Firefighters used approximately four to five handlines to bring the fire under control.
Interestingly, while the crews were inside the building, a neighbor became impatient and decided to leave. He drove his car over several hose lines but was quickly surrounded by six to seven firefighters and a police officer. The situation was handled swiftly, and the driver didn’t move much after that.
